From 2pm until 4pm, the team at Collingwood Court will be opening the doors to the care home for a free family-friendly event. The day is in celebration of Care Home Open Day, a countrywide initiative to create lasting relationships between care homes and their local communities.
This year’s event at Collingwood Court is inspired by the Rio 2016 Olympics and there will be fun games to help everyone get into the carnival spirit. Residents and visitors will be able to put their dominoes skills to the test and try their luck at the tombola. There will also be tea and coffee and a tempting selection of homemade cakes for everyone to enjoy.
Maggie Harrison, home manager at Collingwood Court said: “Care Home Open Day is about connecting people and enriching the lives of residents through building lasting relationships with the local community across the generations.
“Opening our doors is also a great opportunity to show what life is really like in a modern care home; and we hope to change any preconceptions people might have while also showing everything Collingwood Court has to offer.
“We have got a fun day of activities planned and are really looking forward to getting behind Care Home Open Day on Thursday 16th June and welcoming the people of North Shields to be a part of it.”
Visitors to the Care Home Open Day event at Collingwood Court will also be able to pick up their copy of Care UK’s Eating as we Age. The latest in a series of free guides for family carers, Eating as we age is packed with hints and tips for keeping healthy and hydrated in older age. The guide can also be downloaded free at www.careuk.com/eat.
