The Davers Club, adjacent to the newly redeveloped Davers Court care home on Shakers Lane in the town, welcomed around 50 people, including existing club members, relatives and older people from the local community. Everyone enjoyed taking part in bird watching, games and live music from local guitarist James Hogg, as well as a bird-themed craft competition which was won by club member John Sayer, who was delighted to take home a bird-bath prize for his own garden.
Davers Club manager Sue Atkins said “It was a brilliant day and the club was buzzing with energy! I’m so glad everyone enjoyed themselves, including the many new faces who were visiting the club for the first time. We look forward to hosting many more community events like this in the future, as well as giving a big welcome to all the new club members who have joined us as a result of our bird-themed event.”

The RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch encourages people throughout the UK to take a closer look at the nature on their doorsteps during the last weekend in January. Having taken place over the last 35 years, the information collected each year helps the RSPB to form a better picture of bird populations, habits and trends across the country.
