Plenty of natural daylight, well trained carers and little touches designed to minimise confusion are just some of the features in a new residential suite for that has just opened at Care UK’s Larkland House in Ascot for people living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.
Councillor David Coppinger, The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead’s lead member for adult services and health, cut the ribbon to open the new service at the home in London Road, Ascot. The suite will provide first-class specialist dementia nursing for up to 14 residents who have dementia as well as medical conditions that require full-time nursing care.
Each of the rooms is en-suite with a modern wet-room and residents will also be able to enjoy watching a flat screen television available in their room. There is also a lounge where the residents will be able to meet friends or take part in activities and hobbies they enjoy.
Cllr Coppinger said: “I was very pleased to be able to open this wonderful new service that will give first class nursing care to people in our borough. Caring for our ageing population is a key aim of the council and it is reassuring to know that services are being developed to secure the health and wellbeing of people with dementia.”
Maizie Mears-Owens, Care UK’s head of dementia services, helped to develop the new service. She said: “The suite and the rooms look beautiful and they make the most of natural daylight, which we know benefits people with dementia.
“The suite has been designed to minimise confusion, with special signage and use of colour so that residents can move around safely without becoming disorientated. This, teamed with first class nursing care, will create the perfect home for people with the condition who want to have choices.”
