On Friday June 21, Care UK’s homes joined hundreds of others around the country opening their doors for the first National Care Home Open Day, and in Essex we took the opportunity to join in the celebrations.
At Little Holland Hall, at Holland-on-Sea, guests came to enjoy a coffee morning and to look around the home’s lovely grounds, where they could appreciate the hard work done by the residents’ gardening club.
Manager Pauline Goh said: “We were very pleased to welcome visitors on the open morning – our residents always enjoy new people coming into their home and it was good to able to show people what we do.”
Help for Heroes benefited from fund-raising efforts at Haven Lodge care home, Clacton-on-Sea, where an afternoon garden party included music and belly-dancing. Visitors were able to browse at the plant and flower stalls and enjoy a tombola and barbecue.
Home Manager Dave Connolly said: “It is a very worthwhile cause and our residents, many of whom have served in the armed forces, were delighted to be able to open their home up to the public and to raise funds and awareness for Help for Heroes.”
As well as showing visitors around our homes we also gave away copies of the brand new book As Easy As ABC: Care UK’s Top 100 Hints and Tips for Activity Based Care. If you would like to learn more about ABC and how it can improve older people’s independence and wellbeing you can download it from www.careuk.com.
