On Friday June 21, Care UK’s homes joined hundreds of others around the country opening their doors for the first National Care Home Open Day, and in Cleveland we took the opportunity to join in the celebrations.
Staff and residents at The Willows in Middlesbrough welcomed guests to their afternoon fete and garden party, with a variety of stalls and games for all to enjoy.
Manager Ruth Catton said: “We were glad to see all our visitors and delighted that we could not only entertain them but also show them some of what we do here regularly. We know that our residents love making new friends and being part of the community – this was a perfect opportunity to do both.”
Visitors to Hadrian Park care home, in Billingham, took a step back to the 1950s for a period-style tea party. Manager Denise Findley said: “We had a lovely afternoon and were happy to welcome people into the home. We all had fun planning the day and it was a real success.
As well as showing visitors around our homes we also gave away copies of the brand new book As Easy As ABC: Care UK’s Top 100 Hints and Tips for Activity Based Care. If you would like to learn more about ABC and how it can improve older people’s independence and wellbeing you can download it from www.careuk.com.
