Billingham care home is shortlisted for national award

A Billingham care home is celebrating after a team member has been shortlisted for a national award.

Jessica Brown, Home Manager at Care UK’s Hadrian Park, on Marsh House Avenue, has been named a finalist for Care Home Manager category in the National Care Awards, thanks to her passion and commitment to making a difference within the home.

The awards are held annually to celebrate the very best people in the long-term care sector, culminating in an awards ceremony on Saturday 26th November. The 20 categories highlight excellence within the care sector, and reward those who work tirelessly to provide consistently outstanding care.

Jessica, who joined Hadrian Park as Deputy Manager in 2019, swiftly progressed to Home Manager in just two years, thanks to her positive attitude and the wealth of expertise she brings to the home. As well as overseeing the day-to-day running of the home, Jessica operates an open-door policy when it comes to communication, ensuring residents, relatives and team members alike feel heard and understood.

Since taking on her managerial role, Jessica has helped residents to have a more active role in the running of Hadrian Park, providing opportunities for them to share recommendations of what they would like to see within the home. As a result of this, residents have been given the chance to redecorate their rooms, have a say in the décor in communal areas, help plan menus and even be involved in the recruitment process for new team members.

Committed to maintaining a positive and enthusiastic feeling within the home, Jessica ensures all team members receive recognition for their efforts, quickly promoting those with exceptional talent in their roles and holding annual in-house awards. Further extending this inclusivity, Jessica has also built strong connections within the community, including the local dementia charity and ASDA, providing opportunities for everyone within the home to get involved.

Commenting on her nomination, Jessica said: “I was thrilled to be nominated for the award and was incredibly excited to hear that I’ve been listed as a finalist. I love spending time getting to know each resident and making sure their care is tailored personally to ensure they are safe, comfortable and happy.”

David Ankers, Regional Director for Care UK, added: “Jessica is an incredible manager, I’ve seen such a difference over the last year under her leadership. She really strives to see the best in everyone and encourages the whole team to see problems as challenges to be solved together.

“Both residents and relatives have praised Jessica’s compassion, highlighting how she always makes time to talk and ensure everyone is happy. We’re delighted that Jessica has been recognised in these national awards and wish her all the best for the awards ceremony.”

Hadrian Park has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives. The home provides residential and specialist dementia care, as well as short term respite and end of life care.
