Inspired by the Kennel Club’s annual Crufts competition, residents at Care UK’s Tall Trees residential care home, in Colchester, are inviting dogs into the home between Thursday 7th and Sunday 10th March.
Throughout the week, residents will hold a poll of the dogs who visit and vote for their favourite.
There will be prizes for the winning dogs and the overall winner will be named Tall Trees Dog of the Year and their photo will be hung in the home in Mile End Road.
Katherine Foley, who manages Tall Trees, said: “Some of our residents have dogs that now live with relatives and they will be visiting us; friends who visit will also be bringing in their dogs and members of our team will also be bringing in their dogs to meet the residents.
“Dogs have played an important part in many residents’ lives and we want them to be able to keep up their interests and hobbies. I know one of the team has a puppy that will be joining us for the day and I think it will receive lots of attention and cuddles from everyone.”
Event organiser and Activities Coordinator Verity Tofts will be bringing in her own black Labrador Roxy. She said: “The residents love visits from dogs and, by popular demand, I have arranged for us to join the Pat Dog scheme and everyone is looking forward to their first visit.”
