On Thursday 7th March residents at Care UK’s Haven Lodge care home will be inviting members of the public into their home for tea and cake as part of Dementia UK’s Time for a Cuppa campaign.
The campaign seeks to raise awareness of the condition and the effect it has on a person and their family.
Dave Connolly, who manages the home in Holland Road, said: “We provide expert care for people with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia and we know this campaign is very important to people with the condition, for both them and their families.”
As well as a raffle and refreshments, there will be a chance to buy cakes baked by the team, the residents and their relatives. Dave said: “Many of our residents love decorating the cakes; they have enjoyed cooking all their lives and moving into a home certainly doesn’t mean you have to give up your hobbies.”
As well as enjoying homemade cakes, there will be live music and visitors will be able to pick up information packs on dementia. Visitors will also be able to talk to Dave and his experienced team about issues surrounding dementia.
Dave said: “So many people are doing a wonderful job caring for a loved one in their own home without the aid of training or support. Sometimes it is just nice to talk to someone who has experience of dementia to share ideas with and know that someone else understands.
“The event runs from 2pm – 4pm and we look forward to seeing as many people as possible, whether they fancy a piece of cake in aid of a very worthwhile cause or whether they want to learn more about dementia and care.”
