A Salisbury care home celebrated the Chinese New Year in style.
Residents and team members at Care UK’s Salisbury Manor, on Shapland Close, put on a special celebration to mark the beginning of the Year of the Snake.
On the day, residents enjoyed a special tasting menu of traditional Chinese cuisine, created by the home’s Head Chef, Louise Wheatley, including duck spring rolls, egg fried rice, noodles, and sweet and sour chicken.
The home was also decorated with large ornate fans and red and gold balloons. The team also organised for a Chinese-inspired craft session, where residents created their own lanterns while learning more about the culture and background of Chinese New Year.
Residents also enjoyed a special visit from animals, which included a snake, bearded dragon and a millipede, brought in by the team at Zoolab, a local animal charity who provide ethical animal encounters.
Tony Child, 95-year-old resident at Salisbury Manor, said: “I loved interacting with the animals and listening to the story about how the animals became involved in the Chinese New Year.”
Skye Williams, General Manager at Salisbury Manor, said: “Everyone had a fantastic time marking the Chinese New Year and celebrating in style.
“Here at Salisbury Manor, we enjoy celebrating and learning about different cultures, and residents are always keen to try new foods and share their own experiences of different countries and their traditions. The evening menu was a real hit – I think we’ll be having a few more Chinese-inspired dishes in our dining rooms in the coming weeks.”
Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, Salisbury Manor incorporates plenty of space for hobby and leisure activities. The home provides full-time residential care, nursing care, dementia care and respite care. The layout of the building is configured into a series of individual suites, each having a dedicated lounge/dining room to help facilitate the creation of close-knit communities, and the home has its own cinema, hair and beauty salon and café.
