New Wilmslow care home donates to local historical society

 

A new care home in Wilmslow has made a generous donation to a local organisation.

To celebrate the upcoming opening of the care home this February, Care UK’s Long Stone Manor, on Manchester Road, has presented Wilmslow Historical Society with a £500 donation. 

Wilmslow Historical Society brings together people who share an interest in history, particularly the history of Wilmslow and its surrounding areas. Established in 1969, the society has a membership of over 100 people who participate in regular lectures covering a wide range of historical topics, including local, national, and international history.

The Society organises trips, conducts and publishes research on many subjects. It has also commissioned information boards and organised walks that explore Wilmslow’s, from the Iron Age, known as “Wilmslow Pete”, through to the Anglo-Saxon period to the present day including the town’s textile past, the English Civil War and both World Wars.

The group meets once a month to discuss stories about Wilmslow’s history, and is open to welcoming new members. 

The society will use the funds donated by Long Stone Manor to replace a projector screen for meetings and to help with costs associated with archiving historical records

David Briggs, Chair of the Wilmslow Historical Society, said: “It is very kind of Care UK to support the Society in this way. We try to play a small but important part in bringing together a broad mix of local people and this donation will help us share the story of history in Wilmslow even better.”

“Looking back on our history is key for preserving memory, and reminiscence provides a fantastic sense of nostalgia for older people who live, or grew up, in the Wilmslow area. 

“We’re dedicated to working with the local community and the fantastic groups in the area, and we’re looking forward to welcoming David and the rest of Wilmslow Historical Society to Long Stone Manor again as we settle into our new home and create new memories together!”

Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, the new Care UK home, set to open in February 2025, will incorporate plenty space for hobby and leisure activities. The layout of the Long Stone Manor will be configured into a series of individual suites, each having a dedicated lounge/dining room to help facilitate the creation of close-knit communities. The home will also come complete with its own café, cinema and hair and beauty salon, providing care for up to 60 people.
