Music was in the air at a Slough care home as residents spent a festive afternoon with local children ahead of Christmas.
Pupils from Wexham Court Primary School visited residents at Care UK’s Oak House, on Wexham Road, to celebrate the festive season. The two generations came together for a Christmas carol sing-along, where everyone enjoyed belting out seasonal favourites, and the children played along with their musical instruments.
The children had also been getting crafty and created handmade Christmas cards, which they delivered to the residents. They even showered the residents with their very own handmade Christmas gifts, along with presenting a variety of sweet treats for everyone to enjoy.
Residents are keen to continue to build on the blossoming friendship with the local children, and plan to work together on more fun activities and initiatives in the New Year.
Agnieszka Klimkowicz-Buda, Home Manager at Oak House, said: “We’re feeling really festive here at Oak House, and spending an afternoon singing everyone’s favourite Christmas carols with pupils from Wexham Court Primary School was a delight.
“Intergenerational relationships have proven to be enriching for both young and older people, as they provide an opportunity for them to learn from each other and share experiences. It was wonderful to chat about the traditions the different generations look forward to each year and share happy memories of Christmases gone by.
“The residents were truly delighted by the children’s thoughtful gestures and loved their gifts and handmade cards. Their smiles, along with the joy shared by team members, were truly exceptional. It was magical to see the spirit of Christmas bringing such happiness to everyone involved.”
Oak House provides residential, nursing and short-term respite care, as well as specialist dementia care. The home, which has its very own café, hair salon and cinema room, enables residents to live active and fulfilled lives while also promoting independence.
