A care home in Macclesfield is celebrating after winning big at a prestigious national awards ceremony.
Care UK’s Hollins Park, on Victoria Road, won ‘Home of the Year’ at the Residential Care Services (RCS) Stars Awards, a ceremony that recognises individual and team excellence at more than 160 care homes nationwide across Care UK’s RCS division.
The ‘Home of the Year’ category is awarded to the home that delivers outstanding and consistent care, and recognises team members who go above and beyond to achieve this. Hollins Park, which is rated ‘Outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) was the worthy winner on the night.
Judges were impressed by Hollins Park, which became the first Care UK home to officially receive ‘Veteran Friendly’ status from the Veteran Friendly Framework (VFF). To achieve this, the home met eight standards including: noting Armed Forces status within care plans; addressing social isolation; and signposting to support services, such as their local Royal British Legion branch, and other charities that provide support for veterans or their partners.
Home Manager Tracy Norbury and Jasmin Lanzaderas Deputy Manager at Hollins Park, have also recently been awarded the ‘Queen’s Nurse’ title, given to nurses with more than five years’ experience who have demonstrated a high level of commitment to patient care and nursing practice.
Judges at the Stars Awards also praised the whole team for their positive attitude, commitment to ensuring residents live active and fulfilling lives, and ensuring that Hollins Park is a warm and welcoming environment for anyone who walks through the door. For instance, residents are involved in all aspects of life at the care home, so during a recent refurbishment, residents helped choose the colour schemes.
The home’s ‘Wishing Tree’ Initiative was also commended. The initiative encourages residents to put wishes forward, allowing them to reconnect with a passion from their younger years, or try something completely new – from flying a plane to enjoying a fish and chip supper, no wish is too big or small.
Tracy said the following about the award: “This means absolutely everything. I have an amazing team, and everybody has worked unbelievably hard over the last twelve months. This award is for them because it’s a team effort. Residents, relatives, visitors and colleagues – everybody makes it our family.”
Dave Ankers, Regional Director, said: “Being recognised for ‘Home of the Year’ is a true testament to the team’s hard work and commitment to making Hollins Park a wonderful home for all residents.
“This award recognises team members who go the extra mile, and Tracy and the team have certainly proven to us all what it means to support residents with living fulfilling lives – well done everyone!”
Hollins Park has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives. The home provides full-time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care.
