A Leatherhead care home commemorated Remembrance Day with the local community.
Residents and team members at Care UK’s Liberham Lodge, on Rectory Lane, welcomed the local community for a special arts and crafts session with residents to commemorate Remembrance Day.
On the day, guests and residents got creative knitting and making their own poppies. Reflecting on the past, guests also had the opportunity to listen to wartime stories shared by residents who lived through World War Two, before asking them questions about what life was like back then.
79-year-old resident, David Brown, said: “On Remembrance Day we wear poppies to show respect. I was in the RAF for 36 years and I believe it is very important to wear them to remember what happened and keep respect.
Jagpal Singh, General Manager at Liberham Lodge, said: “It was incredibly moving to see the residents share their wartime stories and reflect on this period of history with younger generations in the local community. These kinds of experiences help build meaningful, intergenerational relationships with which are both enjoyable and beneficial for everyone involved.
“The crafts were great fun and now feature as part of a Remembrance Day display we have in the home’s lounge. We’d like to say a big thank you to everyone that joined us!”
Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, Liberham Lodge, incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities. The layout of the building has been configured to help facilitate the creation of close-knit communities and encourage social interaction among the residents.
