A care home in Surrey invited local nursery children to board the Willy Wonka express in celebration of Roald Dahl Day.
The team at Care UK’s Amherst House, on Court Lodge Road, welcomed children from Cerys Nursery into the home for an exciting reading session, which featured much-loved stories from Roald Dahl.
Dressed as their favourite Roald Dahl characters, the children were whisked away to the enchanting worlds of ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ and ‘James and the Giant Peach’, as residents read the famous stories aloud. Residents and children also spent time talking about their favourite books, sharing their love for reading and admiring their creative costumes.
Commenting on the day, resident Hilda Long, 94, said: “It was lovely to see the children's faces light up which shows that Roald Dahl has stood the test of time. These are books that I have read and re-read many times.”
Cristina Cristea, General Manager at Amherst House, said: “We had a brilliant time hosting our Roald Dahl-themed reading session, and it was thoroughly enjoyed by both residents and the children.
“Here at Amherst House, we’re passionate about hosting exciting activities, including intergenerational events that everyone can enjoy, and Roald Dahl Day provided the perfect opportunity to do just this. It was lovely to see residents engaging with the youngsters, sharing stories of their own and reminiscing on their time as parents reading stories to their own children.
“I would like to say a big thank you to Cerys Nursery for joining our special Roald Dahl Day reading session – we look forward to welcoming the children back to Amherst House soon!”
Amherst House has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives in a luxury environment. The home provides full-time residential care, nursing care, dementia care and respite care.
