A care home in Witney has partnered with a local food bank to launch a new drop-off point for unwanted items.
To celebrate this year’s Harvest Festival, Care UK’s Millers Grange on Curbridge Road is launching a foodbank drop-off point at the home – and hosting a special Harvest Festival themed Friendship Café.
The Friendship Café, which will take place on Tuesday 15th October, from 2pm-3.30pm, will see local people invited to a Harvest decorated Friendship Café.
Each year, Harvest Festival celebrates the time when crops have been gathered from fields and people can reflect and show gratitude for the food that they have. It dates back to when people relied on local crops for food and farmers would give thanks for a good harvest.
The foodbank drop-off point, which will see donations made to Witney Foodbank will be live at Millers Grange from 1st October and closes on 15th October with the drop-off point located in the home’s reception.
As well as dropping off items for the food bank, the special Friendship Café event is an opportunity for visitors to meet other local family carers, share experiences and make new friends. In addition, the team at Millers Grange will be on hand to give helpful advice and guests can also enjoy complimentary refreshments.
Rachel Scurr, Home Manager at Millers Grange, said: “Here at Millers Grange, we are always looking for ways to give back and support our community and local charities, which is why we’re delighted to be partnering with Witney Foodbank and launching our first ever foodbank drop-off point at our Harvest Festival themed Friendship Café.
“In these challenging times, we know many people may be struggling, and with Christmas fast approaching, it’s more important than ever to support foodbanks which provide a vital lifeline for many members of our local community.
“We’d encourage those who have unwanted or unused items to come and visit Millers Grange and support us to help those in need.”
