Windsor care home invites community to learn more about dementia

Home news

A care home in Windsor is inviting the community to a free event to encourage more people to talk about dementia.

On Tuesday 22nd October, from 2pm-4pm, and again from 6pm-8pm, the Care UK team at Queen’s Court, on Dedworth Road, will open its doors for the ‘Let’s talk about dementia’ event, where team member Leahanne Wilkinson will share professional advice and support.

Leahanne will deliver the session to help individuals understand the different types of dementia and how family support plans and distraction techniques can help older people to live well with the condition.

This session is centered around Care UK's easy-to-read Q&A guide, titled ‘Let’s talk about dementia’, which taps into 40 years of experience from Care UK’s dementia experts and home managers across the country.

Research by Care UK earlier this year revealed that eight in 10 adults believe dementia is still misunderstood, with 69% believing it’s a subject not talked about enough in society.

Bozena Szczepaniak, new Home Manager at Queen’s Court, said: “While much has been done in the way of raising awareness of dementia, there are still a lot of things people don’t know or aren’t comfortable talking about.

“There are currently around 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK and the numbers are rising, which is why we strongly believe in sharing professional knowledge to help support local carers and family members.

“This event will provide a great opportunity for people to meet other members of the community who may also be supporting their loved ones.”

New manager Bozena was a registered nurse and paramedic before joining the Care UK team almost 16 years ago. She joins Queen’s Court from The Burroughs in West Drayton, where her expertise earned the home an ‘outstanding’ rating by internal governance.

She added: “I am passionate about making residents happy and comfortable, supporting their independence and providing the best of care. I look forward to meeting members of the wider community and introducing myself at our ‘Let’s talk about dementia’ event, which promises to be an interesting and inspiring day of information and guidance.”

There will be a Q&A at the end of both sessions to ensure attendees get the most out of the session, alongside an opportunity to meet the friendly team at Queen’s Court.

Queen’s Court has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives. The home provides full-time residential, nursing and specialist dementia care, as well as short-term respite.
