A care home in Norwich has joined forces with local primary school children to celebrate Harvest Festival.
Residents at Care UK’s Cavell Court, on Dragonfly Lane, visited Cringleford Primary School children for an a-maize-ing afternoon as they celebrated the annual festival.
Everyone enjoyed an afternoon learning about the origins of the festival, what it means for today’s society, and why this long-standing tradition should not be forgotten. Residents also enjoyed watching the Harvest Festival assembly and the children reading poetry and singing songs.
Resident Peta Cremer, 79, said: “It brought back so many lovely memories of my daughter and grandchildren. It was really lovely to attend, thank you for asking me.”
As part of the celebrations, Reverend Gaham Wilkins from St. Peters Church hosted a Harvest Festival Church Service at the home.
Commenting on the harvest service, Brenda Burman, 88, said: “Reverend Graham always does a lovely service and it always makes you feel grateful for what you have.”
Residents and team members have also donated their extra, unused or unwanted non-perishable food items to Norwich Foodbank.
Karen Curle, Home Manager at Cavell Court, said: “It was fantastic to visit Cringleford Primary School to celebrate the annual Harvest Festival tradition and explore its importance today.
“Harvest Festival is a day in the calendar where we can reflect and show gratitude for the food that we have, while serving as an opportunity to connect with others, regardless of age or background.
“Everyone at Cavell Court had an a-maize-ing day and we’re already looking forward to our next event with Cringleford Primary School children as we race towards Christmas!”
