A Worcester care home was joined by some unusual guests for an afternoon of animal therapy.
Residents at Care UK’s Perry Manor, on Charles Hastings Way, gathered to welcome miniature ponies Lollipop and Tinkerbelle into the home, where they received plenty of attention.
As part of the animal therapy session, residents petted, cuddled and walked the ponies, which were brought in by Lollipop Pony Parties. They also learnt about how the friendly creatures are cared for, before the ponies were taken on a tour of the home to visit residents in their rooms and ensure no one missed out.
Margaret Tyler, a resident at Perry Manor, said: “It was a wonderful experience – who knew ponies could go inside? It reminded me of the farm we used to stay on, in Wales during the summer holidays with my mum and dad.”
Katherine Matthews, Home Manager at Perry Manor, said: “We had a lovely afternoon with our special guests, Lollipop and Tinkerbelle – they certainly caused a stir when they trotted into the home!
“Animal therapy is a big part of life here at Perry Manor, as we know just how beneficial it can be for older people, especially those living with dementia. Being close to animals can help lift a person’s mood, stimulate social interaction and create a positive, relaxing atmosphere.
“Thank you to Lollipop Pony Parties for bringing Lollipop and Tinkerbelle into the home. They were the perfect visitors for Perry Manor, and we can’t wait for our next visit.”
