Worcester care home invites community to learn about healthy eating

Home news

A care home in Worcester is inviting the community to join them for a ‘berry’ fun healthy eating workshop.

Keen to share the team’s expertise about healthy eating for those in later life, and anyone living with diabetes, Care UK’s Perry Manor, on Charles Hastings Way, is inviting local people into the home, from 11am-1pm, on Wednesday 25th September.

On the day, the community will be able sample healthy twists on classic recipes while chatting to Perry Manor’s Head Chef, Nicola Burton. The culinary team will also share information on symptoms, causes and the impact of having high blood sugar levels, and discuss the Public Health England’s ‘Eatwell plate’ – recommending options from each food group.

The session aims to provide family carers and those living with diabetes with a space to ask questions and learn practical tips and simple food swaps. Guests will also have the chance to share experiences with other people living with diabetes in a relaxed group setting.

The event has been designed to get local people talking about how to keep fit and healthy in older age. Care UK has also created an online advice hub which takes a closer look at how appetites and tastes change with age, features expert advice from nutritionists, and offers a selection of delicious and quick recipes to try.

Katherine Matthews, Home Manager at Perry Manor, said: “We can’t wait for the local community to join us for our healthy eating workshop.

“Here at Perry Manor, we’re passionate about raising awareness and reducing misconceptions around nutrition and hydration in older age. It can be challenging to know how best to support your loved one – which is why we’re inviting the community to join our talented Head Chef and culinary team who are keen to share their expertise.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming some new faces and old friends for a chat over some delicious and nutritious food.”

Perry Manor is a state-of-the-art Care UK home, which provides full time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short term respite care. Rated outstanding by the CQC, the home is designed to enable residents to live enjoyable and fulfilling lives, the care home has its very own cinema, cafe and hair salon, with plenty of space both indoors and out for relaxation and recreation.
