Residents at a care home in Weymouth were treated to an afternoon of animal therapy when to fluffy friends trotted into the home.
Residents at Care UK’s Anning House, on Cross Road, were shocked to discover they had two new furry additions to the home’s guestlist, after team members arranged a surprise visit from
Socrates and Spartan Warrior, two alpacas.
During the afternoon, residents had the chance to learn about the history and characteristics of alpacas, along with fascinating facts about the calming, intelligent animals. Many of the residents commented on how friendly the animals were and expressed their joy at the opportunity to meet with them.

Commenting on the afternoon resident, Betty Jackson, said: ‘The alpacas were beautiful and had such lovely coats!’
Heidi Williams, General Manager at Anning House, said: “We had a wonderful time welcoming Socrates and Spartan Warrior to Anning House and giving them a full tour of the home.

Interacting with animals can significantly lift spirits and foster social interaction, particularly for those living with dementia. Alpacas are gentle, social animals that enjoy human interaction, making them an ideal fit for spending time with residents.
“Thank you to Alpaca Adventure for bringing them to the home, we look forward to welcoming other animals, big or small, to Anning House in the future!”
Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, Anning House, incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities.
