Chester care home team member shortlisted for prestigious national award

A chef at a care home in Chester is celebrating after being nominated for a national award.

Lloyd Harrison, Head Chef at Care UK’s Deewater Grange, on Chester Road, has been nominated for Care Chef of the Year in the National Care Awards 2024.

The awards recognise teams and individuals that demonstrate innovation, dedication and exceptional service within the long-term care sector.

Lloyd, who has 14 years of experience in fine dining restaurants, joined Deewater Grange in 2020 and was promoted to Head Chef in 2021. He has an extensive knowledge of every resident’s food preference and is committed to ensuring that meals are tasty, well-presented and of a high quality.

Lloyd is also passionate about ensuring that residents maintain a nutrient dense, healthy and balanced diet that allows them to live active and fulfilling lives. He enjoys getting residents involved, and so hosts monthly baking sessions. One resident said: “It was so wonderful to bake again!”

Lloyd particularly loves taking residents on a culinary journey around the world, creating menus from Wales to China, accompanied by décor to match the theme. Recently, Lloyd went above and beyond to celebrate the 80th anniversary of D-Day by cooking a wartime-themed buffet.

Commenting on the nomination, Lloyd said: “I am delighted to be nominated in the National Care Home Awards. I truly love working at Deewater Grange – the residents are wonderful, and I love putting a smile on their faces.”

Commenting on Lloyd’s success, Sally Cooper, Home Manager at Deewater Grange, added: “We are thrilled that Lloyd has been shortlisted for a national catering award – it’s a true testament to his skills and culinary knowledge.

“We are so proud of Lloyd and his expert kitchen team at Deewater Grange – they make such a positive difference to residents and cook some of the most delicious and nutritional food. They work hard every day, and Lloyd certainly deserves to be recognised nationally!

“We are all keeping our fingers crossed for a win later this year!”

The 2024 National Care Awards are taking place on Friday 29th November at the ExCeL in London.
