Richmond and Twickenham care homes host sports days for local community

Home news

With the Olympics fast approaching, two local care homes are limbering up for their very own sporting tournaments.

On Friday 26th July, from 1.30pm-5.30pm, Care UK’s Greville House, on Greville Road, will be bringing Paris to Richmond as it opens its doors to local people to enjoy their own version of the Games.

Meanwhile, Whitefarm Lodge on Vicarage Road, Twickenham, will also welcome the public on Friday 26th July, from 10.30am, for a day of sporting fun.

The event comes as both homes join The Big Care UK Sports Day, which sees over 130 Care UK homes across the UK host sports days for the local community and showcase what life in a care home is really like.

At Whitefarm Lodge, guests can soak up the sporting atmosphere and, for those daring to compete, have the chance to win their own gold medals with a day of fun and games, including archery, beanbag golf and table football.

Visitors can also enjoy a range of refreshments, while tapping their toes to live entertainment during the afternoon.

At Greville House, guests can sample food from all over the world – representing the diverse cultures of the home’s residents. There will be singing by pupils from St Elizabeth’s School, along with live entertainment during the afternoon. Sports will include curling with mops, an egg and spoon race and a three-legged race.

Shane Cosgrove, Home Manager at Whitefarm Lodge, said: “We’re delighted to be welcoming the local community to join our own sporting celebrations.

“We are part of a strong community here in Twickenham, and days like this are a fantastic way of bringing us all together for a little healthy competition and to celebrate this year’s summer of sport, all while showcasing exactly what life is like here at Whitefarm Lodge.

Irone Johnson-Dyer, Home Manager at Greville House, added: “The day not only promises a lot of laughter and enjoyment for all involved, but also is an excellent way for residents to meet and mingle with lots of new faces – and some familiar ones – while keeping active. We can’t wait until kick-off!”

Whitefarm Lodge and Greville House offer full-time nursing and residential care, as well as short-term respite. The homes incorporate space for hobby and leisure activities and include a hairdressing salon, along with comfortable lounges and garden room.
