Care home in Newbury hosts special tea party

Residents at a Newbury care home stepped through the looking glass for a very special party.

Team members and residents at Care UK’s Newbury Grove, on London Road, were joined by the local community, who donned hats and costumes for a tea party inspired by Lewis Carroll’s classic, Alice in Wonderland.

To create a memorable, immersive experience for all, the home was transformed with decorations, and everyone was treated to a specially themed afternoon tea made by the home’s catering team.

Gary Gilbert whose mum, Marion Gilbert, aged 89, is a resident at the Newbury Grove, said: “My mum looked very fetching in her hat.”

Edna Pike, aged 89, also a resident at the home, said: “I loved dressing up and posing in the crown.”

Adarsh Kurian, General Manager at Newbury Grove, said: “We had a wonderful time creating our Mad Hatters Tea Party – it was definitely a hit!

“I’d like to thank our wonderful team who worked really hard to put this all together and dressed up as many of the characters. With all the decorations and tasty treats, it really felt like we stepped through the looking glass.

“Here at Newbury Grove we always try and come up with fun activities for the residents and taking inspiration from our favourite classic books is a great way to encourage reminiscence – all while being creative and having fun.”

Newbury Grove has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives. The home provides full-time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. The care home incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities and includes its own cinema, hair salon and café.
