Chingford care home opens up a new chapter of fun for World Book Day

A care home in Chingford was joined by local children to celebrate World Book Day.

Residents at Care UK’s Ivy Grove, on Hatch Lane, welcomed the children from Song and Smiles mother and baby group, for a fun morning to celebrate children's literature.

Ensuring the scene was set for a storytelling afternoon, the team at Ivy Grove created a reading nook, complete with colourful mats and toys, for the children to get cosy.

Resident, Fred, aged 98, who has a passion for reading, read Albert in the Air by local author Ian Brown Arthur, which proved popular with the children.

Commenting on the afternoon, Fred said: “I loved seeing the children and reading to them. It made me feel young again.”

April Jones, Home Admissions Advisor, said: “At Ivy Grove, we enjoy building relationships with the local community, and we were delighted to celebrate World Book Day with our young friends from the Song and Smiles group.

“Here at Ivy Grove, we are always looking for new and exciting activities for residents. We understand that young and older people alike can benefit from social interaction across the generations and the friendships that are growing between the residents and mother and baby club members are wonderful to see.”

Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, Ivy Grove incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities. The layout of the building has been configured to help facilitate the creation of close-knit communities and encourage social interaction among residents.
