Residents at a care home in Newbury marked the festival of light, Diwali, with an afternoon celebrating Hindu culture.
Residents are Care UK’s Newbury Grove, on London Road, celebrated Diwali, the Hindu festival of light, with an Indian-inspired lunch and special performance from team members.
As part of the celebrations, team members dressed in traditional Punjabi clothes and learned more about the history of the festival while enjoying traditional Indian cuisine prepared by the home’s Head Chef, which included residents’ favourite – samosas!
Commenting on the event, resident Barbra Newell, aged 94, said: “It was absolutely fantastic! Such a wonderful celebration. I loved seeing all the staff in their traditional clothing – I thought the men looked very handsome in their white kurtas and the girls in their saris were stunning.
Barbra McGill, aged 87 also commented: “The girls looked so beautiful in their traditional dresses – absolutely gorgeous.
Adarsh Kurian, General Manager at Newbury Grove, said: “Everyone had a great afternoon celebrating the festival of light and embracing Hindu culture.
“The team at Newbury Grove work so hard to ensure that the home is a welcoming and supportive place for everyone, where all cultures can be celebrated through memorable activities and events.
“Everyone loved getting to enjoy tasting different Indian delicacies and dressing up in traditional outfits – we already can’t wait for next year’s festivities!”
