Care UK colleagues shortlisted for Women Achieving Greatness in Social Care Awards

Care UK is celebrating as two well-deserving colleagues have been shortlisted in their respective categories for the 2023 Women Achieving Greatness in Social Care Awards.

Karen Seabrook, Operations Director, is a finalist for the Corporate Leader Award, and Bozena Szczepaniak, Home Manager at The Burroughs, has been shortlisted for the Wellbeing at Work Award.

The Women Achieving Greatness in Social Care Awards recognises the accomplishments of women at all levels of leadership and from across the whole of the social care sector including services for older people, people with learning disabilities and/or autism and children, young people and families.

Over the past two decades, Operations Director Karen Seabrook has progressed her career with Care UK, showing continued commitment to providing quality care for residents. In 2021, Karen managed the integration of 26 new homes – previously operated under the Sunrise and Gracewell brands – into Care UK.   This meant supporting residents and their families with a smooth transition and overseeing the introduction of 2,300 new colleagues to the Care UK values and ways of working. The results of the transition – including a 3.2% growth in customer satisfaction - showcase Karen’s qualities as a remarkable leader, making her a strong contender in the Corporate Leader category.

Bozena Szczepaniak, Home Manager at The Burroughs in West Drayton, Greater London, has been shortlisted for her dedication to supporting mental health challenges in the workplace. In being shortlisted for the Wellbeing at Work Award, Bozena’s understanding and prioritisation colleagues’ mental health and wellbeing is recognised. She encourages colleagues to actively communicate with not just herself, but also each other. If colleagues are going through a challenging time personally, Bozena’s open-door policy means that they are never afraid to speak up.  She has mentored many of her colleagues successfully, resulting in a supportive, close-knit team where progression is encouraged.

The winners will be announced during the Women Achieving Greatness in Social Care Awards ceremony on 21st November 2023 in London.
