Fareham care home raises over £1,000 to help local charity

A care home in Fareham has raised over £1,000 for a local cancer charity.

The team at Care UK’s Parker Meadows, on Parker View, have raised the impressive amount for the Sophie’s Legacy by hosting a fundraising barbecue.

Sophie’s Legacy, based in Fareham, is a charity created in honour of a local girl, Sophie, who recently passed away after battling cancer. The charity now supports those who have children who are admitted to hospital and campaigns for positive changes to be made for those families.

The team decided to host a barbeque in the home to raise funds for the worthwhile cause and were joined by friends, neighbours and the local community for the special event.

The feast included hot dogs, burgers and kebabs all prepared by the homes Head Chef. There was also entertainment from a live ukulele band and a hook a duck stall.

The team and guests all had a great day and raised £1,051 for the charity by ways of a tombola, raffle, a name the teddy competition, and a guess the weight of the cake competition.

Once the funds had been collected, the team invited representatives from the charity to the home for a special cheque presentation.

General Manager at Parker Meadows, Matthew Smith, said: “We had a wonderful time at our charity barbecue, and it was great to present the donation to such a worthwhile cause in our community.

“Here at Parker Meadows, we’re keen to create strong links with local charities and provide support where we can. We are honoured to aid this charity who we know will benefit a huge amount from the funds we raised.

“We’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who joined us for our barbecue and helped us reach our target of £1,000! Sophie’s Legacy helps so many families in Fareham, and we hope our funds will aid in continuing their important work.”

Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, Parker Meadows incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities. The home provides full-time residential care, nursing care, dementia care and respite care in addition to Independent Living Bungalows. The layout of the building is configured into a series of individual suites, each having a dedicated lounge/dining room to help facilitate the creation of close-knit communities.
