A care home in Eye welcomed local school children for a special educational event.
The team at Care UK’s Hartismere Place, on Castleton Way, put on their teaching hats and invited pupils from St Peter and St Paul C of E Primary School for an interactive session focusing on dementia.
The educational session was led by team member and Customer Relations Manager, Angela Hodge, where she introduced the concept of dementia to the children and helped them to understand how this can affect people in the community.
Curious to learn more about dementia, the session sparked discussions as pupils were keen to ask questions and understand more about the condition.
The interactive session also saw pupils brainstorm ways they would support those in the community or families caring for loved ones with dementia.
The children took part in an activity where they learnt about the parts of the brain that are used to complete different everyday tasks, such as getting dressed in the morning, and how these tasks are made more difficult when the brain has been affected by dementia.
Claire Martin, Home Manager at Hartismere Place, said: “We had a fantastic time hosting our interactive dementia session with pupils from St Peter and St Paul C of E Primary School.
“Many residents at Hartismere Place live with dementia and we feel it’s important to help educate the younger generation on this topic too. We had a great afternoon with the children and it was wonderful to open up discussions and help the pupils understand more about the condition. Pupils also enjoyed learning more about how dementia impacts the brain.
“We’re looking forward to welcoming the local pupils to the home again soon!”
Hartismere Place has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives. The home provides full-time residential, residential dementia, as well as short term respite care. Set to open its doors in September, the Hartismere Place Day Centre will be open to the community throughout the week.
