A party to remember! Community joins Kingston Vale care home for music festival fun

A care home in Kingston Vale transported the local community back to the 1950s to dance their way into the summer season.

Residents and team members at Care UK’s Sherwood Grange, on Robin Hood Lane, hit the right note as they opened their doors to local people for a brand-new 50s-inspired, ‘Rock n Roll’ themed festival.

The fun-filled event came as Sherwood Grange celebrated Care Home Open Week, a national initiative that encourages care homes to open their doors and showcase what life in a care home is really like.

The festival saw guests dance along to live entertainment from local performers, Vintage, who performed famous Rock ‘n’ Roll classics from throughout the decades. Keen to set the scene, team members joined the band in 50s attire to put on their best dancing shoes – much to the resident’s enjoyment.

Guests enjoyed a traditional buffet of food, prepared by the home’s Head Chef. To ensure everyone stayed cool in the much-anticipated sunshine, the home had an ice cream trolley, complete with candy floss and pimms– much to everyone’s delight.

Kristina Jacunskiene, Home Manager at Sherwood Grange, said: “We were delighted to open our doors to the local community to celebrate Care Home Open Week with our very own Rock ‘n’ Roll festival.

“For older people, reminiscing about nostalgic events, including festivals and watching live music, can help bring back happy memories, as well as prompting conversation and connection with those around them. For those living with dementia, these positive feelings gained from revisiting fond memories can help decrease stress, reduce agitation, and improve mood too.

“We hope everyone who came along enjoyed the festival and look forward to planning more events like this one for the local community to enjoy.”
