Let the good vibes roll! Macclesfield care home invites local community to a festival to remember

Home news

A new festival is coming to Macclesfield – and you won’t believe where it’s taking place.

On Monday 26th June, from 2pm-4pm, Care UK’s Hollins Park, on Victoria Road, is set to hit the right note as it opens its doors to local people for its brand-new folk festival.

The 1970s-inspired festival comes as Hollins Park celebrates Care Home Open Week, a national initiative that encourages care homes to open their doors and showcase what life in a care home is really like.

The festival will see guests invited to dance along to live entertainment from Musical Moments who will be performing traditional folk music – sure to get the party started.

There will also be a host of fun garden games, including croquet and giant chess, to keep younger guests entertained.

Visitors will also be treated to a traditional summer barbecue, including a hot dogs and burgers, specially prepared by the home’s talented Head Chef.

Ahead of the event, residents have spent time reminiscing about their own live music memories, including 71-year-old Terry, who often went to watch local gigs.

He said: “I loved a good dance or two in my day – a boogie and a nice beer! I used to go to all the local pubs to watch live music and entertainment which I really enjoyed.”

Tracy Norbury, Home Manager at Hollins Park, commented: “We’re excited to be opening our doors to the local community to celebrate Care Home Open Week with our 1970s folk festival.

“For older people, reminiscing about nostalgic events such as festivals and live music events, can help bring back happy memories, as well as prompting conversation and connection with those around them. For those living with dementia, these positive feelings gained from revisiting fond memories can help decrease stress, reduce agitation, and improve mood too.

“We’re excited to be welcoming the Macclesfield community as we open our doors and ask everyone to join us in putting their dancing shoes on as we get the opportunity to be young, wild and free once more!”
