Let the good vibes roll! Enfield care home invites local community to a festival to remember

A new festival is coming to Enfield – and you won’t believe where it’s taking place.

On 30 June, Care UK’s Elizabeth Lodge, on Pennington Drive, is set to hit the right note as it opens its doors to local people for a brand-new carnival themed festival.

The fun-filled festival comes as Elizabeth Lodge celebrates Care Home Open Week, a national initiative that encourages care homes to open their doors and showcase what life in a care home is really like.

The special event will see guests invited to dance along to live entertainment who will be performing songs from throughout the decades – sure to get the party started.

Guests will also be able to enjoy a traditional summer barbeque, including hamburgers, hot dogs, salads and kebabs, which has been prepared by the home’s Head Chef. To ensure everyone stays cool in the much-anticipated sunshine, the home has also planned an ice cream trolley, complete with candy floss and other sweet treats.

Ahead of the event, residents have spent time reminiscing about their own festival/live music memories, including 95-year-old Dianne Davis, who has attended a number of music festivals around the world.

Diane said: “I have lived and travelled all over the world, and have been lucky enough to see different music traditions and carnivals. The atmosphere is always amazing and I can’t wait to be part of the one here at Elizabeth Lodge – I have even made by own headgear!”

Michelle Sampang, Home Manager at Elizabeth Lodge, commented: “We’re excited to be opening our doors to the local community to celebrate Care Home Open Week with our very own carnival-themed festival.

“For older people, reminiscing about nostalgic events, including festivals and watching live music, can help bring back happy memories, as well as prompting conversation and connection with those around them. For those living with dementia, these positive feelings gained from revisiting fond memories can help decrease stress, reduce agitation, and improve mood too.

“We’re excited to be welcoming the Enfield community as we open our doors and ask everyone to join us in putting their dancing shoes on as we get the opportunity to be young, wild and free once more!”
