A new festival is coming to Cambridge – and you won’t believe where it’s taking place.
On Friday 30th June, from 2.30pm-4.30pm, Care UK’s Heathlands House, on Bullen Close, is set to hit the right note as it opens its doors to local people for its very own Folk Festival.
The fun-filled festival comes as Heathlands House celebrates Care Home Open Week, a national initiative that encourages care homes to open their doors and showcase what life in a care home is really like.
The special event will see guests invited to dance along to live entertainment from popular local group, The Cambridge Folk Club – sure to get the party started.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to browse a variety of stalls selling delicious vegan treats, hand-made jewellery and locally made crafts from Hidden Treasures.
Ahead of the event, residents have spent time reminiscing about their own music memories, including 88-year-old Mary Wright, who, in her younger years, lived next to Cherry Hinton Hall, where the annual Cambridge Folk Festival is held.
She said: “My garden backed on to the venue, so every year I’d get to listen to the festival – for free! It was lovely to hear people enjoying themselves.”
Razvan Stanbeca, Home Manager at Heathlands House, commented: “We’re delighted to be welcoming the local community to join our folk festival here at Heathlands House.
“Care Home Open Week offers the perfect opportunity to get together with loved ones and enjoy a celebration of live music. Many residents at Heathlands House have fond memories of watching live music in their younger years, and this event will encourage them to look back and relive these happy memories.
“We have many music lovers here at Heathlands House, and we’re really excited to ring in summer in style with our first ever festival. We can’t wait to strike a chord with residents and the wider community!”
