Party season has arrived at a care home in Woking after residents made a cheeky request for their cocktail party.
Forget bingo, knitting and gardening – life at Care UK’s Kingsleigh, on Kingfield Road, is not what you expect. In this care home with a difference, residents are empowered to lead fulfilling lives – so after 11 female residents unanimously requested “a bit of fun” to spice up their cocktail party, team members immediately set to work organising something memorable.
Care UK homes across the country encourage residents to share wishes, no matter how big or small, as part of the wishing tree initiative. In this instance, residents asked for the return of their favourite butler, Alessandro from Butler Bookings, who had visited the home earlier this year for a surprise 99th birthday.
With lateral flow tests completed, the ladies were delighted when Alessandro made a triumphant return and strutted into the home’s lounge wearing nothing but a rather revealing apron and bow tie. After a round of applause and giggles, Alessandro was only too happy to oblige in serving the ladies their tipple of choice.
The saucy afternoon proved so popular, even the male residents turned up for a peek at the bare-bottomed waiter.
After the cocktails were served, the residents were full of praise about the extra special service. Resident, Jean Cutts, said: “I thought that he was amazing – I wish he could visit us every day. I did try to give him my number!”
Resident, Rosemary Cruickshank, added: “Cor, Alessandro can come again!”
Kelly Kelleher, Home Manager at Kingsleigh, said: “We may have been drinking old fashions, but life at Kingsleigh care home is anything but. Our team are always looking to host fun and creative activities that offer residents a memorable experience and which challenge the view of living in a care home – which on this occasion, meant welcoming back our favourite butler in the buff, Alessandro.
“Our ethos is about helping residents to enjoy more independent and fulfilling lives in the way they want to, and we’re keen to ensure that there are no limitations so that every day can be different and fun. No matter age or ability, we ensure residents thrive at Kingsleigh, whether that’s by building upon life-long hobbies or having wishes to do something they’ve never done before fulfilled.
“This was a truly memorable afternoon for the residents and has certainly got everyone in the festive, party spirit here at Kingsleigh. We want to say a big thank you to Alessandro for coming along – the residents are already looking forward to his next visit!”
Kingsleigh has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives. The home provides residential, respite and specialist dementia care, surrounded by beautiful gardens in a quiet residential area of Surrey.
