A Chingford care home welcomed their local police force for a special session to encourage residents to stay hydrated as the hotter weather continues.
The team at Care UK’s Ivy Grove on Hatch Lane, welcomed Safer Neighbourhood team to help residents stay hydrated with a range of handy tips and advice used in the force.
Residents enjoyed learning how the police stay hydrated in the hotter weather as well as how the force are continuing to keep the Chingford community safe throughout the summer months and beyond.
To ensure residents eat and drink plenty over the warmer months, Care UK’s highly-qualified catering team have created a free booklet, Making Every Drink Count, which covers every aspect of hydration. The free book looks at why older people are more likely to suffer from dehydration and includes recipes to create drinks for people who may have lost the triggers that tell us we’re thirsty.
The book also includes special recipes that residents at Ivy Grove enjoy on a regular basis, from garnished flavoured waters and mocktails, to strawberry iced tea and fruit puree drinks – perfect for the summer season.
Alexander Bragg, General Manager at Ivy Grove, said: “We were delighted to welcome Safer Neighbourhood team to Ivy Grove for officers to share their advice and support for remaining healthy and hydrated. As temperatures rise, hydration becomes more important than ever for general health and wellness, particularly for older people.
“It can be tricky for older people to ensure they drink enough, but with the advice offered by the force and our hydration guide, we are well prepared at Ivy Grove for any more heatwaves this summer.
“We hope the local community will download their own copies of the guide during this particularly hot time, keep an eye on older relatives and friends, and to get in touch with us if they want any more assistance.”
Copies of the free booklet can be downloaded from the link on this page.
Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, Ivy Grove incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities. The layout of the building has been configured to help facilitate the creation of close-knit communities and encourage social interaction among residents.
