‘Laugh every day!’ Bramhall resident reveals the secret to a long life on 102nd birthday

A resident at a care home in Bramhall has shared the secret for living a long and happy life on her 102nd birthday.

A very special birthday celebration took place at Care UK’s Ladybrook Manor, on Dairyground Road, when resident Peggie Brown, turned 102 years ‘young’.

To mark the occasion, Peggie revealed her secret to longevity was ‘enjoying your own company and making sure to laugh every day’.

To celebrate, the home decorated the lounge with balloons and banners, and the home’s talented head chef baked a special birthday cake for everyone to enjoy.

Peggie was born on 5th July 1920 in Knightsbridge, London. Her father was a Captain in the Grenadier Guards which meant that throughout her younger years, Peggie lived in several parts of England, including Windsor and Aldershot, where she attended finishing school at Stockwell College.

A keen reader, Peggie enjoys reading novels at Ladybrook Manor and discussing her thoughts with team members. Peggie also enjoys taking part in the home’s arts and crafts sessions, where she often makes her own bracelets and necklaces. Peggy has one daughter, one granddaughter and two great grandchildren, who regularly visit their great-grandmother.

John Harrison, Director of Community Relations at Ladybrook Manor, said: “Peggie is a much-loved resident and a constant in the Ladybrook Manor community – having been here since we opened in 2008. It was fantastic to help her celebrate this incredible milestone with her friends here at the home.

“Here at Ladybrook Manor, everything we do is focused around our ethos of ensuring residents live active and fulfilling lives, so we always like to celebrate important milestones – and Peggy’s 102nd birthday was no exception. It was lovely to raise a glass together on her special day.”

Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, Ladybrook Manor, which remains open to potential residents, incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities. The building has been configured into a series of neighbourhoods to help facilitate the creation of close-knit communities and encourage social interaction among the residents.
