Southmead care home helps town become dementia friendly

A care home in Southmead is helping to create a dementia-friendly community.

On Thursday 10th March, from 11am-12pm, local people are invited to attend a virtual Dementia Friends event hosted by Care UK’s Trymview Hall care home, on Southmead Road.

The Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Friends programme is an initiative to change people’s perceptions of dementia, raising awareness and understanding of the condition. It aims to transform the way the nation thinks, acts and talks about dementia.

Vicki Lambourne, Dementia Friends Champion at Care UK, will be covering a number of topics to help people understand what it is like to live with the condition. There will also be support and practical advice on what dementia is and how memories are lost, as well as useful tips on how to overcome communication barriers and discover positive approaches to living with dementia.

There will also be advice for those attending on the small things they can do to make a difference to people living with dementia in the community.

Nicole Anderson, Home Manager at Trymview Hall, said: “At Trymview Hall, we are committed to encouraging others to learn about dementia, and we are really proud of the progress we have made by supporting the Dementia Friends initiative. We want to educate people, but also help the community turn their knowledge into action by making our community more aware of those living with the condition.

“We look forward to hosting this virtual event. These sessions have proven incredibly popular in the past, so booking a place is essential.”

For anyone unsure about how to take part in the virtual event, help is at hand. The team at Trymview Hall will host the event using Teams, an online meeting space. Simply call or email Customer Relations Manager, Nicola Wolff-Donitz, and she will send a link to join the event and share her tips to make the most out of the session.

Trymview Hall provides full-time residential and dementia care, with 66 ensuite bedrooms, and has been designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence. The care home will incorporate space for hobby and leisure activities and will include its own cinema, hairdressing salon and café.

To book your place at this event, email Nicola Wolff-Donitz, Customer Relations Manager, at nicola.wolff-donitz@careuk.com or call 0333 321 8351.
