A care home in Cheltenham is inviting the community to the launch of its dementia café.
On Wednesday 26th January, from 3pm-4pm, dementia experts from Care UK’s Sandfields, on St George’s Road, will be hosting the first dementia café at ‘The Place to Eat’ in John Lewis & Partners in the town centre.
The monthly ‘Forget Me Not’ café, led by the friendly team at Sandfields, including Customer Relations Manager Laura Sayburn, will provide guidance and practical support for people living with, or caring for a loved one, living with dementia as well as signposting them to relevant services. There will also be new guest speakers every month to offer professional tips and advice for day-to-day care, getting out and about and suitable activities.
The sessions will also provide an opportunity for carers, and people living with dementia, for to meet each other in a safe and friendly environment, and share their personal experience – all while enjoying coffee and treats.
To celebrate the launch, there will be live music from professional singer Helen Steadman, who will also demonstrate the benefits of music and singing for older people, especially those living with dementia.
Laura said: “We’re delighted to be launching our dementia café, with the help of John Lewis & Partners. The whole team has been working hard to create an information hub for carers in the community to meet and receive advice, so we can’t wait to officially launch.
“It’s been a challenging couple of years, especially for those caring for a loved one living with dementia. We hope our dementia café will provide them with a lifeline, as well as an opportunity to meet people in similar situation and be a part of a strong support system – no carer should ever feel like they’re alone.
“We’d like to invite everyone caring for a loved one, as well as those keen to find out more about dementia, to join us for our opening event. We have a great afternoon planned to kick things off, and we’re looking forward to getting to know the carers in our community better.”
The monthly dementia café sessions will be held on the last Wednesday of each month from 3pm-4pm.
