A Knebworth care home was delighted to crown a local school pupil as winner of their poetry competition.
Team members and residents at Care UK’s Knebworth, on London Road, were delighted to host a poetry competition for Year 3 children at Knebworth Primary School.
As part of the competition, pupils flexed their creative writing skills and penned poems around the theme of family, which were then displayed in the home for residents to read and vote for their favourite. After much deliberation, residents crowned Ellie’s poem, Mum’s Best Noodles as their worthy winner.
Vera Moreira-Henocq, Home Manager at Knebworth, said: “We were keen to find new ways to connect with the community while restrictions are still in place, and we knew our friends at Knebworth Primary School would put a smile on everyone’s faces.
“Intergenerational relationships form a huge part of life here, and have been proven to improve older people’s wellbeing in many ways. Connecting with children can give older people an increased sense of purpose, as well as providing an opportunity to reminisce about their younger years.
“Everyone has loved reading each of the entries - it was tough to pick just one winner! The poems are in pride of place on our display wall, and we can’t wait to show the pupils at Knebworth Primary School as soon as they are able to visit us in person again.”
Knebworth delivers a full range of residential care for older people, including short-term respite care, nursing care and specialist care for people living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.
