A local care home has hosted its very own weekly baking competition inspired by the hit Channel 4 show.
Team members at Care UK’s Francis Court, on Borers Arms Road, put their aprons on and baked different kinds of cakes in three rounds of the competition. Residents then judged the cakes on design, creativity and, most importantly, taste.
Tamara Ibiayo, Business Administrator at the home, had a clean sweep, winning every single round with her Jamaican-style Christmas cake, Viennese whirls and red velvet cake. Tamara won the coveted ‘star baker’ apron and a copy of The Great British Bake Off’s ‘Love to Bake’ recipe book donated by Channel 4.
Anna Allen, Home Manager at Francis Court, said: “Everyone at Francis Court has enjoyed the Bake-Off inspired competition over the past few weeks. The residents were thrilled to judge the delicious bakes and were unanimous in crowning Tamara as their winner.
“Here at Francis Court, we encourage residents to live active and fulfilling lives, and organise a variety of activities for them to take part in, including our Bake-Off events. We would like to thank Channel 4 for kindly donating the prizes, we’re looking forward to donning our aprons in the new year for some more baking fun.”
Francis Court has been designed to deliver quality care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives. The home provides full-time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care.
