A care home in Islington is celebrating after being shortlisted for a national award.

Alex Wendling, Head Chef at Care UK’s Lennox House on Durham Road, has been shortlisted in the ‘Care Chef’ category at The National Care (NCA) Awards.

The NCA Awards highlights excellence in the care sector and rewards those who provide consistent, outstanding care.

Head Chef Alex stood out because of his commitment to ensuring residents dine with dignity and enjoy their meals. He meets each resident on the day they move in to discuss their dietary requirements, their likes and dislikes, and their appetites throughout the day so he can tailor meals to the individual.

In 2019 Alex implemented a monthly fine dining experience at the home for residents and their families, who are treated to a Sunday lunch with their loved ones in the home’s garden room, including printed menus and wine to add to the sense of occasion.

The judges also noted that Alex had a huge focus on healthy living at the home, and regularly provided nutritious new dishes and homemade beverages including fruit smoothies and kombucha tea brewed at the home.

Alex Wendling, Head Chef at Lennox House, said: “I am incredibly proud to have been shortlisted for an NCA award. I am passionate about providing the very best dining experience for residents, from using high-quality ingredients to creating menus that are inventive and tasty.”

Lennox House has been designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives. The home provides full time residential, nursing and specialist dementia care, as well as short term respite care.
