Sidcup care home thanks residents and community for their support

Sidcup care home thanks residents and community for their supportA care home in Sidcup has thanked those who have gone the extra mile to support them throughout the coronavirus pandemic, including a very dedicated resident.

Care UK’s Smyth Lodge, on Frognal Avenue, has expressed its gratitude for the consideration and generosity shown by the people of Sidcup and the home’s residents over the past couple of months.

From volunteering, to delivering messages and artwork to brighten everyone’s day, individuals and organisations have pulled together to support the older members of the community, and Care UK homes across the country have been overwhelmed by the kind gestures of local people.

88-year-old Vera, a resident at Smyth Lodge, has been described as a ray of sunshine throughout the pandemic, thanks to her upbeat attitude and positivity. Over the past few months, she has lent her baking skills to the team to help make cookies for everyone and even handed out homemade thank you cards for the care home team. Smyth Lodge was also inundated with support from the community, receiving flowers and chocolates from their local Co-op branch.

Whether it’s baking for a resident’s birthday, keeping the morale up through creative activities, team members at Smyth Lodge have also been praised for their unwavering dedication and relentless efforts over the past few months.

Roda Williams, home manager at Smyth Lodge, said: “The past few months have shown how lucky we are to share our home with many kind, wise, or creative residents and team members.

“We have been especially touched by Vera’s positivity and kindness; she truly helped to keep everyone’s spirits up by creating some incredibly thoughtful cards for the team and brightening up our days, as well as her fellow residents’.

“I’d like to say a big thank you to Vera, and to everyone who has helped put a smile on the residents’ faces – it means a lot to us, and we can’t wait to be able to open our doors again to show our gratitude.”

Smyth Lodge has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives. The home provides full-time residential dementia and nursing care, as well as respite care.
