Horsham care home welcomes special VIP guest

A care home in Horsham welcomed local MP, Jeremy Quin, who visited to learn about living with dementia and life in a care home.

Care UK’s Skylark House, on St Mark’s Lane, hosted the politician for an informative afternoon, when Mr Quin had the opportunity to see the activities which form part of daily life in the care home.

Team members and residents gave Mr Quin a tour of the home and showed him a range of residents’ ‘life story books’. The books are created when a resident moves in to Skylark House and outlines their backgrounds, likes and dislikes, hopes and aspirations for the future, with the aim of carers tailoring residents’ experiences based on this.

Mr Quin learned more about resident, Rose Southon’s, trip to Paris, which was organised after she made a wish on the home’s ‘wishing tree’. The wishing tree is an initiative which all Care UK homes take part in to help make residents’ dreams come true.

Jeremy also met resident Gwen Barker, whose wish to cook lunch for everyone in the home was made a reality, and Audrey Merry whose wish to ride a horse again after 60 years came true on her hundredth birthday.

Devendra Lallchand, home manager at Skylark House, said: “Here at Skylark House our philosophy is to ensure residents continue to live active and fulfilling lives, which we achieve via resident-centric care.

“We were delighted to showcase the amazing activities and trips that we carry out here at Skylark House, and I’m so pleased that Mr Quin was able to visit us and learn more about our home. I’d like to say a big thank you to him for coming, the residents thoroughly enjoyed meeting him!”

Skylark House has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives. The home provides full-time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite and palliative care.
