Ashford’s newest care home has been officially opened by the Mayor of Ashford, Councillor Jenny Webb.
Residents, team members, and the local community joined the mayor at the grand launch of Montfort Manor, on Kennington Road, at a party that was also attended by Willesborough Primary School.
It was an afternoon of celebration, complete with entertainment from Vintage Ruby, who sang a variety of retro hits. The celebration saw Mayor Jenny Webb join Montfort Manor’s first resident, Christine Sharpe, to cut the ribbon to officially open the care home.
Fun and games followed the official proceedings, with biscuit decorating proving a hit with visitor’s old and young, as well as impressive magic tricks, courtesy of Oliver from St Thomas More Catholic Comprehensive school. There was also the opportunity to interact with the puppies from the Canine Cuddle Club and enjoy a delicious afternoon tea.
The opening ceremony included the announcement of ‘Local Hero’ winners, a competition which ran in the lead up to the home opening to reward local people who go above and beyond for their community.
Deserving winners, the North School’s health and social care class, were crowned the local heroes and presented with prizes by Care UK home manager, Cheryl Shorter. Claire Watts and her students were nominated for their work in opening a local dementia café, which provides a space for those living with dementia and their carers to have some time to relax.
Second and third place runners up, Sue Mott and Uprising at Stanhope Community Hub, were also honoured in the ceremony for their hard work in the local community.
Cheryl Shorter, home manager at Montfort Manor, said: “Our grand launch party was a wonderful success and the perfect way to mark such an important moment for Montfort Manor. The local schools, businesses and neighbours have been so warm and welcoming; we feel like we are already part of the community.
“We were delighted to welcome the Mayor of Ashford to help us officially open the home, and it was fantastic to see residents, team members, friends, family and locals all joining in the fun. It was truly a day to remember.”
