A care home in Horsham is treating residents to special trips all over the world, thanks to virtual reality.
Care UK’s Skylark House, on St Marks Lane, makes sure residents continue to live active and fulfilling lives, and is always striving to find fun and unusual pastimes.
One of the many activities they enjoy is virtual reality sessions, with Horsham District Council Community Link visiting the home to take residents to a whole new world.
Residents are asked what they’d like to see on the VR headset and many choose to visit places they have never been to, like a visit to see Gorillas in the Forest, a Campfire at the Northern lights,
or a Safari with Elephants.
Some opt for things they’d like to do again, such as visit a quiet tropical beach, visit a nostalgic seaside or go on a trip to see wildlife in the forest – including deers, rabbits and birds.
Home manager at Skylark House, Devendra Lallchand, said: “The virtual reality set has been a particular hit with residents, as it enables them to go anywhere they choose, experience activities from their younger years or try out something different. Activities like this allow residents to reminisce about their younger years, and are so important for their health and happiness.
“Activity-based care is at the heart of everything we do at Skylark House, so we want residents to continue to live fulfilling lives.”
Skylark House has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives. The home provides full-time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite and palliative care.
