Bird is the word! Framlingham care home residents spread their wings to celebrate the best of Britis

Bird is the word! Framlingham care home residents spread their wings to celebrate the best of British birdsResidents at a care home in Framlingham are gearing up to take part in some avian-themed activities this January.

Inspired by the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch, which takes place from Saturday 25th January to Monday 27th January, residents will be taking part in a variety of activities related to our feathered friends, as well as topping up their bird feeders and counting the birds in their garden.

Alongside Care UK homes across the country, Mills Meadow, on Fore Street, will be celebrating the best of British birds by taking a trip to RSPB Minsmere and creating their own bird garden at the home. Residents will also take part in a avian-themed arts and craft session to create a large collage to be displayed in the home.

Sally Shadbolt, home manager at Mills Meadow, explained why exploring our wildlife is an important activity: “Residents love taking part in nature-themed activities and learning more about the beautiful environment we live in.

“Spending time outdoors and connecting with nature around us can prove to be beneficial for both the physical and mental wellbeing of older people – particularly those living with dementia. While it is a calming, peaceful activity, the distinctive sounds and vibrant colours of the garden are also great for providing sensory stimulation.

“We can’t wait to try and spot as many local birds as possible - hopefully they’ll all pay us a flying visit!”
