Residents at a care home in Enfield are gearing up to take part in some avian-themed activities this January.
Inspired by the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch, which takes place from Saturday 25th January to Monday 27th January, residents will be taking part in a variety of activities related to our feathered friends, as well as topping up their bird feeders and counting the birds in their garden.
Alongside Care UK homes across the country, Elizabeth Lodge, on Pennington Drive, will be celebrating the best of British birds by making bird fat balls and reminiscing with the residents about the types of birds who used to live in their gardens when they were younger.
Following their birdwatching session, the home will also host a special bird-themed quiz to see what residents and team members have learnt.
Michelle Sampang, home manager at Elizabeth Lodge, explained why exploring our wildlife is an important activity: “Here at Elizabeth Lodge we want to celebrate British birds by taking part in activities inspired by our feathered friends.
“Birdwatching can be a fantastic experience, particularly for residents living with dementia. The sights, smells and sounds of nature can spark many memories and be a real conversation starter.
“We can’t wait to try and spot as many local birds as possible - hopefully they’ll all pay us a flying visit!”
