It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at a care home in West Drayton, where residents received a special visit from local Scouts.
Care UK’s The Burroughs, on Mill Road, opened its doors to a local Scout group for an afternoon of Christmas-themed crafts.
On the day, youngsters and residents took part in a special workshop to create Christmas decorations to hand around the home ahead of one of the most exciting events of the year, the Christmas party.
Bozena Szczepaniak, home manager at The Burroughs, said: “Christmas is nearly here at The Burroughs, so it was great to spread some festive cheer with our local scout group.
“Arts and other creative projects can have many therapeutic benefits for older people, especially those living with dementia, by offering an alternative way to communicate and a chance to relive happy memories. Combined with intergenerational relationships, which have also proven to be enriching for all ages, they can give older people a sense of purpose, and they provide an opportunity for both children and residents to learn from each other.
“It is fantastic to see the friendships developing between the residents and youngsters, and everyone at the home is looking forward to welcoming the Scouts again soon.”
The Burroughs is a warm and welcoming care home which provides full time residential and dementia care, as well as short term respite care. Designed to enable residents to live enjoyable and fulfilling lives, the care home has it very own cinema and hairdressers, and there is plenty of space both indoors and out for relaxation and recreation. The home has a comprehensive activity program, offering a mix of themed events, group activities and days out.
