Macclesfield care home celebrates national award win for dementia care

A care home in Macclesfield is celebrating after it was recognised at a national awards ceremony.

The Residential Care Services (RCS) Stars awards recognise individual and team excellence at more than 120 care homes nationwide across Care UK.

The team at Care UK’s Hollins Park, on Victoria Road, was presented with the Great Dementia Care award because of the wonderful environment they have created at the home. The compassionate, patient and thoughtful team strives to deliver the very best in person-centred care – an example of this was a sensory garden created in response to the many keen gardeners at the home. The garden allows residents to spend time outdoors, either gardening or simply enjoying the sensory environment.

The panel of judges praised the Hollins Park team for their ability to apply their dementia knowledge to the day-to-day lives of residents, while also collaborating with local hospitals, mental health services and charities to share expertise in the field of dementia.

Tracey Norbury, home manager at Hollins Park, said: “The awards ceremony was a truly inspirational evening – it was brilliant to celebrate the dedication of team members, as well as the positive impact this has had on residents.

Our sensory garden is a source of great enjoyment for residents, whether they are planting new flowers or enjoying the sunshine – it’s wonderful to see residents and the team alike enjoying time together outdoors.
