Ascot residents step back in time to remember WWI

Home news

Ascot residents step back in time to remember WWIResidents at a care home in Ascot stepped back in time for an afternoon of reminiscence.

Care UK’s Larkland House, on London Road, hosted a special WWI display and talk from local historian, Carla Bennett.

The display, called ‘A Village Goes to War’, focused on Ascot’s involvement in WWI and was a tribute to local young men who fought in the trenches. The talk also offered many residents an opportunity to reminisce, including 98-year-old Hilda Woolgar; she remembered several stories her father had told her about his time in the army and proudly shared them with Carla and the Larkland House team.

Home manager at Larkland House, Nicola Humphries, said: “Although WWI might not have affected them directly, many residents at Larkland House grew up hearing war stories from their parents and grandparents.

“Carla’s history talk offered the perfect opportunity to reminisce, and the display proved to be very popular with residents, especially Hilda. It was fantastic to see her face light up when she talked about her father and shared these fascinating stories. We’d like to say a big thank you to Carla for such a special afternoon.”

Larkland House has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives. The home provides full-time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care.
