Millers Grange hosts teddy bear picnic for local primary school

There was a ‘big surprise’ for residents at Millers Grange, when a group of six to eight-year-olds went down to the home for a special teddy bear picnic.

Care UK’s Millers Grange hosted the visit for the neighbouring Our Lady of Lourdes Primary School, with guests and pupils enjoying a specially-prepared picnic together in the home’s beautifully sunny courtyard.

Visitors from the nearby Homestead care home in Carteron, also joined the fun, which included a performance from local entertainer, ‘Sir NitWit’.

Home manager at Millers Grange, Steve Reader, explains: “We have already formed a lovely relationship with Our Lady of Lourdes Primary School, who supported our recent Grand Launch, so were delighted to welcome the Year 1 and 2 pupils into the home again. Naturally, as it was a teddy bear picnic, we enjoyed lots of marvellous things to eat, including some fantastic bear-shaped biscuits baked by our in-home chef, so it really was a treat of a day for all.

“As we welcome more residents over the coming months, this is just one local partnership that we hope to further nurture, as we are always looking for innovative ways to involve residents in activities. Creating bonds across the generations is something that we know works especially well, as young and older people alike really benefit from the social interaction. We look forward to another visit from the pupils very soon!”
